Orthopedic Protocol

If your child has a strain, sprain or fracture and will require any orthopedic device to be used at school, please see the OUSD Orthopedic Protocol below:

  • In accordance with Board Policy 5142 all ace bandages, braces, splints, casts, and crutches must have a note from a medical provider to return to school.  Students with casts and crutches will not be allowed to actively participate in PE activities because of potential danger to the student and others.  Doctor’s note MUST state:

    1. Date student may return to school

    2. With: brace, crutches, cast, splint, or ace bandage

    3. PE restrictions

    4. Extra Time at passing period.

Students will NOT be allowed to return to school until the Health Office has received this note.

Medical excuses from a doctor will modify activities, or excuse a student from any participation. It is the student’s responsibility to report to their teacher at the beginning of the period for the day’s assignment. No student is allowed to leave the area unless instructed to do so. Students on Long-term medicals (four weeks or more) may be reassigned to a different class through the counseling office.
